The Coronet Theatre Jazz Festival: Cameron Scott Quintet
(This is a past event and is no longer running)
7:30pm
The Cameron Scott Quintet is a new and exciting group featuring a strikingly unusual horn line-up and an intensely dynamic rhythm section. The band’s sound is highly eclectic, featuring tunes from avant-garde jazz pioneers such as the legendary Charles Mingus, and also featuring Scott’s own original music.
Scott’s compositions are inspired by a huge range of influences, from the harmonic sound-worlds of contemporary classical composers, to the hypnotising forms and melodies of jazz composers such as Bheki Mseleku, Wayne Shorter, Brad Mehldau and Geri Allen. The dynamism within the quintet is such that all five musicians feel like front-line players at any given time, guaranteeing an exciting performance no matter the ferocity or sensitivity of the tune they are playing.
