Outside In: Matthias Hoch
(This is a past event and is no longer running)
Visual artist and photographer Matthias Hoch presents his film Japan Sketches as part of Outside In.
Japan Sketches
Japan through the eyes of an outsider. The camera does not move, no pan, no zoom. It keeps its distance and observes: the city, the traffic, the architecture. People in the public space. The forest, athletes, a parking garage. Lucid, tranquil scenes. The sound lends a rhythm to the whole and propels the images forward. The video footage were recorded in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo during a three-month stay as artist-in-residence at the Goethe-Institut Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto.
