Fill 2019: Untameable Creatures
(This is a past event and is no longer running)
Society has always tried to tame women, but not all of them are willing to accept it. Laura Pugno and Olivia Rosenthal tell stories of women attempting to emancipate from social constrictions and the price they might have to pay to break free. Making use of zoological metaphors and creatures, pushing the boundaries of realism, recurring to paradoxical, weird, philosophical and hybrid novels they explore the ubiquitous presence of gender violence, human restlessness, and the attempt at domesticating the desire for freedom.
Laura Pugno is an Italian novelist, essayist, translator and playwright. She’s won many prizes including Premio Campiello and Premio Dedalus. She is currently the director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid. Among her novels: Sirene, La ragazza selvaggia, La metà di bosco.
Olivia Rosenthal is a French novelist and teacher of creative writing. She lectures at Université Paris VIII. Winner of the Prix Wepler, the Prix du Livre Inter, and the Prix Alexandre-Vialatte, she is the author of a dozen novels.
